One day at a time

Life looks very different to how I imagined it would. Right now, I’m taking one day at a time.

1 year after being made redundant, I’m still living in uncertainty. I have enough money to pay the bills, and I’m grateful for that, but not knowing what comes next makes it hard to plan. Some days feel like standing still while the rest of the world moves forward.

As we got over the half year mark, instead of feeling refreshed or hopeful, I felt stuck in a space of uncertainty. Holding space for the kids, keeping things light, making sure everyone feels safe and loved is my top priority and it takes energy to be the steady one. But showing up for them, day after day, reminded me that I’m capable — stronger than I sometimes give myself credit for.

What’s grounding me right now is routine. I’m up at 5am every morning to go to the gym. Those early hours have become my anchor. They give me space to move, breathe, and clear my head. They remind me that even when life is unpredictable, I can choose how I respond. Because of that routine, I’m sleeping well — deeply and consistently — and that rest has been essential for my mental health.

In just over four weeks, I’m heading home to Wales, my third trip thi year. Having that to look forward to feels like a lifeline. I can’t wait to see my family again, to be surrounded by people who know me completely, who don’t need explanations. The thought of home brings comfort in a way that’s hard to put into words.

Right now, life is uncertain, but it isn’t broken. I don’t have all the answers, and that’s okay. I’m showing up, creating stability, and moving forward one day at a time — for my kids, and for myself.  And that feels powerful.

If you’re in a season where life feels uncertain — where plans are on hold and routines are doing the heavy lifting — know this: you are not lost. You are adapting. You don’t need everything figured out to be moving forward. Strength doesn’t always look loud or decisive; sometimes it looks like consistency, care, and choosing to keep going. Showing up, building stability in small ways, and trusting yourself through the unknown is not just enough — it’s powerful.
