Self healing

Followers of this blog will know that there’s been some big changes over the last few months.  I moaned and groaned about my job for so long on here (apologies!) that last March we decided to do something about it and applied for the Australian Visa.  Fast forward 10 months and life is great, we’re all happy…. but god do I need some therapy!

I started the blog almost 2 years ago, when I decided I wanted to write more, something I’ve always been passionate about, and being a follower of many parenting blogs over the years, I thought I’d give it a try, plus I think I’m quite funny on times, which granted, may be just a self-observation but it’s a good place to make me smile, if no one else!

First ever post!

Life was always so busy, I was always chasing my tail, but I tried my hardest to find the time to post something, something that was important to me, a topic I was enthusiastic about.  Granted there were some big holes in the year where I didn’t write for a while and I guess I didn’t succeed in meeting the high expectations I’d set myself for the blog, but there’s only so many hours in the day right!

Always crazy weekly to-do lists

I naturally like to be productive.  I like to write my weekly to-do lists and tick them off one-by-one as I work my way through them.  I like to have goals to reach and aims to achieve but I think last going off in the UK, I was so busy with work and the kids and the house, and freelance work that it just got on top of me and I let the blog suffer.  I forgot myself for a while and just did the usual 9-5 living, leaving out all my creative passions and just doing what needed to be done, but now, here in Australia, I’ve got my mojo back!

The mojo has returned!

Firstly, I have returned to writing my blogs on paper first!  If you’ve seen my Instagram posts, you’ll know I’m a little obsessed with stationary so picking out a nice, smooth pen and new notepad to write the latest release is just pure happiness to me, I get so excited with a blank sheet of paper, plus doing it on the beach is a massive motivational booster!

WorkKidsSleep isn’t a monetary blog, I don’t earn from it but for me it’s not about that, it’s not a job, it’s not a chore, it’s a passion.  Writing for me is a release, a release of my thoughts, of my dreams, of my fears and my opinions.  But of late, with all the work crap from last year, then the big move, the emotions, the stress, the lack of sleep, I currently see blogging as my therapy, my escape!

Inspiration from the Pacific Ocean

Research suggests that writing, as an art, is good for you in many ways, including mental health, stress, loneliness and emotional trauma to name a few, people feel more confident writing about something than they do speaking about it. Writing a journal or blogging can give you a way to explore your feelings about present and past events, and sometimes make issues hidden within you become more apparent when they’re down on paper, making them less challenging and maybe easier to deal with.

Morning run, deep in thought

Me personally, it’s more my way to escape from the daily grind.   I am creative in the day job anyway, and do some copywriting for websites, print media and other people’s blogs, and I have always loved putting pen to paper and agree that expressing yourself in this way, for whatever reason and whatever the topic, can help the mind escape to its good place.  You are in control of what you write, you don’t have to share it, you can trust a piece of paper over talking to a person if that’s your fear, and it can always be erased, not like words you say out loud which you can’t take back.

My therapy

For me, I prefer to do it alone.  I prefer a quiet place, maybe a lit candle  or a view I can look at and lose myself in, and definitely a hot chocolate!   I’ve made a point this last week or so of writing regularly, posting on social media, and just getting back into it, and it’s good for me, I’m feeling it the effects and I’m living out one of my passions.

It’s not about the number of likes, or comments, or how many hundred reads a day I get on the site, it’s just about me.  No Hubby, no kids, no one else, it’s just about me doing something I enjoy, doing something I’m passionate about, my thoughts, my words, my heart on my sleeve, and if I can inspire people on the way with my writing, that’s a bonus.

In a busy life with house, work and kids, expressing my passion for writing and the English vocabulary, taking awesome photographs to go with, talking about topics that are important to me and my life all equates to perfect therapy session!  I’ll swap talking for writing, a sofa for the sand, and it doesn’t cost a dollar!
